Northwest Yunnan’s Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, also known as the appealing Shangri-La area, has made a hit at the 2019 China International Travel Mart (CITM) which was held in Kunming, Yunnan Province from Nov. 15 to 17.

At the “World’s Shangri-La” exhibition area in Hall 9, Diqing displayed unique Tibetan customs, beautiful scenic areas, cultural heritages and artistic performances.

The beautiful scenic areas on show include the Meili Snow Mountain, the Shika Snow Mountain, the Blue Moon Valley, the Tiger Leaping Gorge, and the Songzanlin Temple.

The Tibetan culture features the black pottery, the Songlin Tibetan incense, the Thangka painting and others. Visitors were immensely impressed by ethnic and songs and dances staged at the Shangri-La” exhibition area.

The black pottery originated from the Nixi village in Diqing, with traditional vessels being earthen pots, fire containers and others. Now local craftsmen have created new varieties such as ashtrays, vases, wine cups, and pen holders.

“As a local specialty for tourists, the Nixi pottery wares sell well in the tri-junction Tibetans areas of Yunnan, Sichuan and Tibet,” said Larong Pichu, general manager of the Shangri-La Black Pottery Development Company. “Some of the vessels were sold to Nepal and other neighboring countries.”

Also on display at the international travel mart were 30 plus varieties of Tibetan incense sticks and over 10 Thangka paintings.
