A new variety of super hybrid rice planted in southeast Yunnan’s Mengzi city reached an output of 1,036.23 kg per mu, according to yield measurement conducted on Oct. 14. This variety of hybrid rice is cultivated by the team of Yuan Longping, a globally renowned agronomist known as the "father of hybrid rice".
Starting from April 24, the whole planting process is managed in accordance with strict technical standards.
"It’s the first trial of this variety of new super hybrid rice in Mengzi. Given the planting, transplanting and harvesting all delayed by a month because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the yield of over 1,036 kg per mu is quite inspiring," said the experts. (By Hu Yanhui)
