The International Skiing Resort of Dahaicao Mountain in eastern Yunnan’s Qujing city opened its 2019-2020 ski season on Saturday, December 14. A title of “Provincial Base for Public Skiing” was given to the resort by the Sports Bureau of Yunnan During the opening.

“It is already my third year to come over for skiing,” Li Yunlong, a native ski enthusiast aged 25, told us. I learned this sport in northeast China, because there was nearly no ski areas in Yunnan back in time. But now, I can literally ski at home without leaving the province.”

Li also expects that more people can get to know this exciting activity and be engaged in it soon.

Sitting some 240 kilometers away from Kunming, the capital city of Yunnan province, this resort normally runs about 100 to 120 days between each September and the March of following year.

The local daytime temperature ranges from 6 to 15 ℃ in winters, which makes the Dahaicao Mountain an ideal ski destination for both professionals and amateurs.

Currently, the resort contains three primary ski tracks, one intermediate snow track as well as two advanced ones. In addition to this, over 20 more projects are under construction planning, hoping to meet the increasing demand of skiers of all ages and at all levels.

Since the opening of the resort three years ago, a considerable number of local businesses - particularly hostels and restaurants - have been seen thriving around it. Dwellers in Qujing are also eager to gain benefits from this boom driven by skiing.
