Deep in the breathtaking region of Shangri-la in southwest China's Yunnan Province, you'll find a stunning hotel rooted in Tibetan culture. The architecture looks like what you would see in traditional Tibetan dwellings. The Tibetan-style aesthetic that permeates the establishment is evident in the decor, too – it's a blend of treasured antiques and local craftsmanship. It all comes together to create an atmosphere that feels authentically Tibetan, with a lot of rustic elegance.

As beautiful as the buildings are, the highlight of this hotel stay was definitely the Tibetan hospitality. The employees seemed like one big family, and their kindness and genuine smiles made me feel less like a tourist and more like a long-lost member of the family coming home for a visit, participating in the local rituals. The locals even taught me some dance moves, which I stumbled through. They were definitely more graceful than me!

Boutique hotels like this are more than a place to spend a night. The core of their purpose is celebrating the local culture. This is an experiential travel, and I felt quite immersed in the local lifestyle and customs. The surroundings were also incredibly beautiful, with the famous Songzanlin Monastery and beautiful rolling hills just steps away.
