In addition to the majority of Han, Yunnan has 25 ethnic minorities, making it a most ethnically-diverse province in China. Various ethnic customs have also given birth to ethnic craftsmen in Yunnan. The ethnic minorities live in harmony on this land, treating each other as brothers and sisters. With their minds and hands, they created brilliant heritages, fusing tradition into modernity.
In the hands of Yunnan craftsmen, golden and silver items are carved into exquisite ornaments. In northwest Yunnan’s Jianchuan County, flower images and landscapes are carved onto logs. In Baisha town, 10 kilometers north of the Lijiang old town, lady embroiderers are creating the Thangka images with threads, making a big difference in heritage inheritance.
Embroidery, carving, pottery, gold and silver items, bamboo weaving, copper wares and shadow play are typical traditional art forms in Yunnan.
To increase Yunnan’s visibility, an event called “Beautiful Yunnan with Flowers in Blossom" was recently held to seek fine videos from the public. We received works from different places and a few videos were chosen for special display. Most of the videos show Yunnan’s scenic beauty and ethnic harmony.
